Toyota bZ4X Owner's Manual: DC Charging Troubleshooting
1. DC Charging Does Not Start
Likely Cause: The DC charging connector may not be properly connected or securely locked in place.
Correction: Check the physical connection of the DC charging connector. Make sure it is fully inserted and properly locked. If charging still does not begin, the issue might be with the DC charger or the overall charging system. In that case, if a malfunction is suspected with the charger, contact the charging station manager; otherwise, reach out to your dealer.
2. System Errors and Power Issues
Likely Causes:
- An error has been detected by the DC charger or during the vehicle’s system check.
- The power for the DC charger is off or unstable.
- The traction battery is already fully charged.
- The AC charging connector is still attached, which prevents simultaneous operation of DC and AC charging.
- The EV system is running or not in Park.
- The upper limit of the charge capacity is set lower than the battery’s current charge.
Corrections:
- If an error is flagged, first determine whether the issue lies with the DC charger. If so, contact the facility manager; if not, the vehicle system may be at fault – in which case, contact your dealer.
- Ensure that the DC charger is receiving power by checking its status and, if necessary, consulting with the charging station manager.
- If the battery is full, charging will not occur. Similarly, disconnect any AC charging connectors before starting a DC charging session.
- Please ensure the vehicle remains off and in Park; if the EV system is already started, stop it before attempting DC charging.
- If the current battery charge already exceeds your set limit, raise the upper limit and reattempt charging.
3. Repeated or Interrupted DC Charging
Likely Cause: Repeated DC charging in a short period or a timer-based interruption may affect the charging process.
Correction: Wait a few minutes after starting the EV system before reinitiating DC charging. Verify if the DC charger’s built-in timer is stopping the session intentionally, and if so, consult with the charging station manager for guidance.
4. Temperature-Related and Component Malfunctions
Likely Causes:
- The traction battery is exposed to extremely high or low temperatures.
- The charging-related components (such as the cooling parts or even the air conditioning system) are overheating or shutting down during the charging process.
Corrections:
- Allow the battery temperature to stabilize before retrying a charge.
- If charging-related components become too hot, wait a few minutes for the temperature to decrease before attempting to resume charging.
- Keep other electrical components, such as the air conditioning system, switched off during the charging process if they interfere with battery performance.
5. Post-Charging EV System Startup Issues
Likely Causes:
- An incomplete system check after DC charging.
- The DC charging connector remains connected.
- The DC charging system is malfunctioning.
Corrections:
- Perform a complete system check according to the designated procedures (refer to your system manual, for example, page P.117). If the system check still fails, contact your dealer immediately.
- For safety reasons, ensure that the DC charging connector is removed immediately after charging; the EV system will not start while the connector is engaged.
- If the issue appears to lie with the DC charging system itself, sometimes closing the charging port lid can help the EV system restart. Otherwise, contact your dealer for further support.
