Turning the intuitive parking assist function ON/OFF

The intuitive parking assist system can be enabled or disabled through a customizable setting in your vehicle’s driver-assist menu. When deactivated, a dedicated OFF indicator illuminates on the multi-information display to inform the driver that the system is inactive.

If the system is switched off, it will remain disabled-even if the power is cycled back to ON-until you manually re-enable it from the customization settings. In vehicles that lack a multimedia display or rear camera, the system will automatically re-engage and the OFF indicator will turn off when the gear shift is set to Reverse (R). Note that while in Reverse, the intuitive parking assist cannot be toggled manually.

Once activated, the system retains its pre-configured settings unless you explicitly modify them via the menu. This ensures consistent performance every time it is used.

Cautions regarding the use of the system

Although the intuitive parking assist function provides vital support during low-speed maneuvers, it has its limitations in recognition accuracy and control performance. The driver must always maintain full awareness of the surroundings and not overly rely on the system for safe parking or maneuvering.

To ensure the system can operate properly

Follow these precautions meticulously-if any cannot be observed, it is essential to disable the system to avoid potential hazards:

• Avoid damaging the sensors; always keep them clean and unobstructed.
• Do not affix stickers or install electronic components-such as backlit license plates (especially fluorescent ones), fog lights, fender poles, or wireless antennas-near the radar sensors.
• Refrain from subjecting the sensor area to heavy impacts. If an impact occurs, have the vehicle inspected immediately; if the bumper requires removal, installation, or repair, contact your authorized Toyota dealer.
• Do not modify, disassemble, or paint the sensors.
• Avoid using license plate covers that may obstruct sensor signals.
• Ensure tire pressure is maintained at the recommended levels.
• Install only genuine suspension components to preserve the sensor alignment.

Notes when washing the vehicle

• When using a high pressure washer, avoid spraying the sensors directly to prevent potential malfunctions.
• Maintain a safe distance when using steam cleaning near the sensor areas, as excessive heat or moisture may disrupt their performance.

The system can be operated when

• The power switch is ON.
• The intuitive parking assist function is enabled.
• The vehicle speed is less than approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).
• A gear other than Park (P) is selected. For vehicles without a multimedia display or rear camera, the system will auto-enable when the gear is shifted to Reverse and the OFF indicator will deactivate.

The core setting of the intuitive parking assist system remains unchanged unless manually adjusted.

Sensor Detection Information

• The sensors’ detection zones are confined to the vicinity of the vehicle’s front and rear bumpers.
• Various vehicle conditions and surrounding environmental factors (e.g., rain, fog, or debris) may affect sensor detection capabilities.
• Objects positioned too close to the sensors might not be detected reliably.
• A brief delay can occur between object detection and when the distance is displayed along with the corresponding audible warning.

Even at low speeds, there is a possibility that an object may breach the sensor’s detection zone before the alert is displayed and the buzzer sounds. Factors such as high audio system volume, background noise from the air conditioning, or interference from other system buzzers may also diminish the clarity of the alert.

• Ambient noise from the audio system or air conditioning can make the buzzer difficult to hear.
• Interference from other systems’ buzzers can mask the warning sound.
• In the event of a meter malfunction, the buzzer may fail to sound altogether.

Objects Which May Not Be Properly Detected

The physical shape of an object may inhibit the sensor from detecting it accurately. Particular attention should be paid to:

• Wires, fences, or ropes which may not reflect ultrasonic signals effectively.
• Materials like cotton or snow that can absorb sound waves, reducing detection efficacy.
• Objects with sharply angled surfaces or low-profile items.
• Tall objects with protruding upper sections oriented toward the vehicle.

Additionally, pedestrians might not be detected reliably if they are wearing clothing made of materials that dampen ultrasonic waves.
